Who we are
Ropejam Studio (“we”, “us”) runs a Shibari and Kinbaku studio at 7 Fountayne Road, Unit 2, London N15 4QL, and the website at https://www.ropejam.co.uk.
We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

Our commitment to discretion
We understand that attending a shibari studio is private. We do not publish, sell, or share attendee lists. We do not disclose who attends our classes or events to anyone outside the studio, and we will never confirm a person’s attendance to a third party who asks.
You are welcome to book and attend under a scene name or chosen name. Where we need a legal name for card payments, for example that information stays with the payment provider and is not linked to your attendance publicly or shared with other participants.
What information we collect, and why
When you book a class, course or event
Bookings are handled through Ticket Tailor. When you book, you provide your name and email address, and Ticket Tailor processes your payment. We receive the attendee list for each event so we know who is coming.
We use this to run the event, contact you about changes, manage waiting lists, and keep a record of which courses you have completed so we can advise you on the right next level.

When you buy something from our shop
To fulfil an order we collect your name, billing and delivery address, email address, and phone number if you provide one.
Your card details are handled directly by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

When you sign up to our newsletter
We collect your email address, and your name if you give it. We use this to send you information about classes, courses and events.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by contacting us.

When you contact us
If you email us or use a contact form, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply and follow up.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
When you leave a comment
We collect the information shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string, which help us detect spam. Comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely so we can recognise follow-up comments automatically.
An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible publicly alongside it.

When you visit the website
Our web server records standard technical information including your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit. We use this to keep the site running, secure, and working properly.

Photography and filming
We sometimes photograph or film classes, events and performances. We ask for consent before doing so, and you can decline without any effect on your participation.
Where a photograph identifies you, we will not publish it without your specific agreement. If you have previously agreed and change your mind, contact us and we will remove it from anything we control.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies so you don’t have to re-enter them. These last one year.
If you visit our login page we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in we set cookies to save your login information and display choices. Login cookies last two days; screen option cookies last a year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends your login to two weeks. Logging out removes them.
Our shop uses cookies to remember the contents of your basket and to complete your order.
Where we use cookies that are not strictly necessary, we ask for your consent first, and you can change your choices at any time.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content, including maps, videos and ticket-booking widgets. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly.
These sites may collect data about you, set their own cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content including if you have an account and are logged in with them.
We currently embed content from Google Maps and Ticket Tailor.
Who we share your information with
We share information only with the services we need to run the studio:
- Tickettailor: ticketing and event bookings
- Stripe: payment processing
- MailPoet: newsletter delivery
- Our web host: website hosting
- An automated spam detection service: checking comments
- Our accountant and HMRC: where required for financial records
We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards required by UK data protection law, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
Media
If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), because visitors can download and extract that data.
How long we keep your information
- Order and payment records: six years, as required by HMRC
- Event and attendance records: Three Years
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe
- Enquiries and correspondence: two years from your last contact
- Comments: indefinitely, unless you ask us to remove them
- Website server logs: 30 days
If you register an account, we store the information in your profile. You can see, edit or delete it at any time, except your username. Administrators can also see and edit that information.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is inaccurate
- Erase your information, where we have no overriding reason to keep it
- Restrict how we use it
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests
- Portability: receive your data in a transferable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is our legal basis
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, and you can request that we erase it. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security reasons.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk, by calling 0303 123 1113, or by writing to Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
Age
Our classes, events and website are for adults aged 21 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
